Heavy rains, a hot cup of tea & kanda bhajji

The city of dreams, Mumbai is known for it’s rains. There are at least 7-8 days in the entire monsoon season when it rains heavily for a day or two at a stretch. These days are marked by blinding rains which floods the entire city slowing down the city on the whole.
But that doesn’t stop the Mumbaikars from enjoying the rains and the lovely climate. People leave their routine to grab a piping hot cup of “chai” and a plate of “kanda bhajji”. Nothing complements the climate better. I am writing this blog sitting by my apartment’s window enjoying the spectacle of the crazy rains sipping a cup of hot tea with a dash of ginger and freshly made kanda bhajji (steam is coming out as i break the bhajji into 2 halves) by my Maa.
To be really frank kanda bhajji & tea never tasted better. I am enjoying the warmth the hot cup of tea is giving me as I hold it with both my hands. The bhajjis which are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside are driving me crazy. I must say mom makes them damn tasty. My hands and my mouth just don’t seem to stop, haha.
I can see the street right below my building already flooded. This is the time when Mumbaikars go for long drives, especially to Lonavala(closest hill station). We prefer halting on the ghat on looking the valley to enjoy the monsoon staple of tea & kanda bhajji. Other favorite destinations are Marine Drive & Worli Sea face. With heavy rains and the huge sea waves the spectacle is worth million dollars.
So go grab your cup of tea and a plate of delicious kanda bhajji and enjoy the thrill of crazy monsoon. And yes, it always tastes the best when you have some company to share your excitement 😉
