Today is 16th of July, Indian Film Industry’s one the most celebrated actress Katrina Kaif’s birthday. While the social media is pouring with wishes for the Bollywood Diva, we learned something interesting about her culinary interests. Kat’s favourite indian food is CURD RICE. Yep you read that right. If you were wondering it could be something like a Hyderabadi Biryani or Paneer Tikka Masala well sorry to disappoint you.
CURD RICE is a very popular dish in the southern part of India. Not only is it a total comfort food but is also very easy to make, call it a easy quick fix dish. Here’s the recipe for the interested ones:
Preparation Time – 10 mins
Serves – 1 – 2 persons
Cooked Rice – 1 1/2 cups
Curd – 1 cup
Tomato – 1 finely chopped
Cucumber – ½ finely chopped
Capsicum – ½ finely chopped
Pomegranate – 2 tbsp
Coriander – 2 tbsp chopped
Ginger Chilli paste – ¼ tspn
Salt to taste
Edible Oil – 2 tbsp
Udad daal – ½ tspn (Skinned and split black lentils)
Mustard seed – ½ tspn
Cumin seed – ¼ tspn
Asafoetida – pinch
Few curry leaves
Few methi seeds (fenugreek seeds)
Dry Red Chilli – 1-2
For Rice –
Once you’ve cooked the rice allow it to cool down completely. In a big bowl, add all the ingredients from the list one and mix well. Keep it aside.
For the Tadka –
Heat the oil in a tadka pan. Add curry leaves and red chilli. Now add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, udad daal, methi seeds, cumin seeds and let them flutter. Pour the tadka on the rice.
Garnish with coriander pomegranate and red chilli. Your Curd Rice is ready to be served.
